What is Google Authenticator?
Google Authenticator is a two-factor authentication (2FA) app that generates time-based codes used to log into various services including AltCoinTrader. We ask users to make use of this additional level of security but also users must be aware of the risks of using its' Google cloud synchronization feature.
Google Authenticator cloud backup
When Google Authenticator backs up accounts to the cloud, it also backs up the private keys, also known as secret keys. This means that anybody who has access to your google account will also have access to your 2FA codes.
As such, for the security of your funds, we insist that users ensure their Google accounts are 100% secure if you are making use of their cloud sync feature.
"Secret key"
Upon enabling 2FA on your AltCoinTrader account you will be provided with a "secret key" under step 1. It is important to take down this secret key and keep it somewhere safe as you can use the key only once again after you have activated 2FA to access your AltCoinTrader account.
In the case that you lose or change your device, delete the authenticator app, or simply wish to link your 2FA to another device, you will require the "security key".
